A report published on the digital portal Primicias revealed that this situation is added to the 70-million-dollar debt that the Ministry of Health and the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) have with 105 dialysis centers.
Vladimir Basantes, one of the spokespersons for the Association of Dialysis Centers, said that although the clinics have power plants, they cannot always use them because they do not have the budget to buy fuel.
There is not even enough money to pay salaries or to buy basic supplies, and even worse for fuel,’ he regretted.
The institution called on health authorities to fulfill their obligations, especially now that they require fuel for their power plants to make up for the lack of electricity.
On Monday, Minister of Energy and Mines Roberto Luque informed that the Government is looking for alternatives to the crisis in the sector, as a result of which there are lengthy blackouts in Ecuador.
