Strong earthquakes registered in the southern part of this nation and northern Syria, in February last year, killed at least 51,080 people and injured 107,204 in this country and left 8,476 deaths and 14,500 wounded in Syria.
According to the Hurriyet Daily News, Steinmeier is visiting a temporary shelter for the earthquake’s victims and a school built with the help of German companies.
The German president will also attend National Sovereignty and Children’s Day celebrations in Gaziantep, where the city of Nurdagi was the epicenter of the first 7.8-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale and the second 7.5-magnitude tremor in Kahramanmaras nine hours later.
On Wednesday, on the third and last day of his stay in Türkiye, the German head of State will meet with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in this capital where he will also visit Ankara’s University.
