The celebration of the Campamento Tierra Libre (ATL) 2024 event encourages villagers to participate in the event from their territories, which this year has as its theme “Our Framework is Ancestral: We were always there” to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the largest indigenous mobilization of the country and the union between peoples.
“We continue to be mobilized and in the fight. The ATL is the largest indigenous mobilization in Brazil and the expectation is that 2024 will be the most participatory in history, both in number of people and in the representation of peoples,” highlighted Kleber Karipuna, executive coordinator of the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil, who stressed that this is the “moment to unite in the assemblies and to debate the next paths.”
In the 2023 edition of the ATL, a native congregation was held under the motto “The indigenous future is today. Without boundaries, there is no democracy.”
According to the organizers, the agenda is subject to change and, among other issues, there are days dedicated to the discussion on “Resistance Networks and Strengthening the struggle” and “The challenges faced by indigenous peoples regarding the approval of the temporary law frame.
There will be a plenary session dedicated to international coordination between indigenous peoples to defend the rights of the locals in the climate and biodiversity agendas. Another hearing will analyze how to evaluate the effectiveness of access to Justice for native communities.
