According to official data, his arrest took place in Puerto Quito, in the province of Pichincha and was made after several months of investigations and operations carried out by specialized police units, the Ministry of the Interior and the Attorney General’s Office.
On March 23, Colón Pico’s family confirmed to the media that he had died; however, the government recently included him in the list of military targets. Prior to his escape, the drug trafficker was being held in jail in the city of Riobamba, in the province of Chimborazo, after being accused of attempting to kill the state attorney general, Diana Salazar.
