Foreign investment in Panama decreases

Panama City, Apr 22 (Prensa Latina) Panama has not been able to recover the growth rate of foreign investments it had before Covid-19, according to a government report.

According to the press release of the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) of the General Comptrollership of the Republic, in 2023 this flow represented two thousand 14.6 million dollars, which meant a drop of 30.7 percent in relation to the same preceding stage.

The report specifies that the drop was due to the fact that reinvested profits fell 40.2 percent, particularly by the international license banks.

In contrast, in 2022, the flow of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) reached two thousand 906 million dollars, representing a 50.8 percent increase with respect to the one thousand 927 million registered in 2021.

In 2019, before the pandemic, according to statistics published by the newspaper La Prensa, Panama received three billion 895 million dollars in FDI. And in 2020 it reached the record figure of four billion 750 million dollars.
