Counting of votes continues after popular consultation in Ecuador

Quito, Apr 22 (Prensa Latina) The official counting of votes after the Sunday consultation and referendum continues in Ecuador with 30% of the ballots still to be processed, according to the National Electoral Council (CNE).

The CNE reported that 72% of the electorate turned out to vote, and the first results indicated that the No won in two key questions, which would rule out the hourly work and international arbitration.

Meanwhile, the Yes would be victorious in the rest of the 11 questions, most of them related to security issues.

The cherry on top of the popular consultation were the questions on hourly labor and international arbitration. Faced with the reality we live in, people voted out of fear, not out of support for the administration of Daniel Noboa, the president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), Leonidas Iza, told Radio Pichincha.

The consultation was a political oxygenation. The president no longer has any pretext to guarantee insecurity and fight corruption, the indigenous leader reiterated.
