Return of Cubans stranded in Haiti continues

Havana, Apr 20 (Prensa Latina) Cubans stranded in Haiti as a consequence of the complex situation of violence there will continue to return home on Saturday, as part of an operation coordinated by Cuban authorities.

The first group of 49 people of the more than 200 Cubans expected to arrive this weekend on six Sunrise airline flights from Cap Haitien to the international airports “Ignacio Agramonte” in Camagüey, and Antonio Maceo y Grajales, in Santiago de Cuba (east), arrived on Friday.

The first phase of the operation was carried out in several buses from Port-au-Prince to Cap Haitien, in northern Haiti, as part of a procedure that, according to President Miguel Díaz-Canel, required a careful and continuous analysis of the right moment to organize it.

The Cubans were stranded in Haiti after the border was closed due to an escalation of violence by criminal gangs and the confrontation with law enforcement forces, after the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry reported on its X profile that it will continue to provide information on the development of this return operation until its completion.
