Washington’s obstruction of the Security Council in assuming its historic responsibility in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people constitutes yet another shameful stain to add to its long record of striking and undermining the foundations of collective international action, a Foreign Ministry statement said.
It added that this veto embodies Washington’s blind bias in favor of Israel’s occupation regime.
The Foreign Ministry stressed that hindering the establishment of the independent and sovereign Palestinian State would only prolong insecurity and instability in the Middle East, which originally arose from Israel’s ongoing occupation of Arab lands and its perpetration of the most heinous crimes of aggression against their peoples.
The US vetoed a draft resolution that would allow Palestine to become a permanent member of the UN. The Security Council voting, proposed by Algeria on behalf of the Arab group, was held on Thursday.
