Press reports indicated that the individual is a person who has already been tried and convicted for an arson attack on the same diplomatic venue last year.
The detainee said that he had a vest with explosives and grenades, and at least one witness claimed to have seen the devices.
Following the police deployment at the site, in the 16th district of Paris, the individual surrendered without any violence.
The police searched the area and the detainee’s vehicle, without finding any actual bombs or grenades.
