It is the first visit paid by a Hungarian foreign minister to the Dominican Republic in 40 years of diplomatic relations.
The ministers exchanged opinions, positions and perspectives on multiple issues on the global agenda, including irregular immigration and national security challenges.
They advocated the defense of multilateralism as an indispensable resource for talks and the search for peace among peoples, and agreed to continue to work together in different areas of the United Nations system, the Ministry said.
It added that Szijjarto’s visit has laid the foundations to strengthen bilateral trade and tourism, as well as attract investments to the Dominican Republic.
Bilateral agreements were signed on higher education, exchange between diplomatic academies, cooperation in water management, visa exemption for diplomatic and official passports, political consultations, as well as cooperation in trade and productive linking.
The Dominican Republic and Hungary established diplomatic relations on July 27, 1984.
