Quoted by local media, the diplomat called on donor countries, at a Security Council briefing, to reverse their decision to suspend their funding to the UNRWA and continue to provide support for the Palestinian people on their territory and in host countries, including Syria.
He explained that the UN General Assembly created the UNRWA 75 years ago to provide care and support to Palestinian refugees who were forced by Israel’s brutal attacks and massacres to leave their homes and seek safe haven in neighboring Arab countries.
Since then, Israeli occupation authorities persist in their aggressive policies towards the countries and peoples of the region, committing atrocious crimes and massacres, the latest of which is the genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, the Syrian delegate added.
He denounced that the UN has adopted hundreds of resolutions related to the Arab-Israel conflict, but these were not implemented due to the unlimited support provided by the United States, which gave green light to Israel to continue its extermination of the Palestinian people and persist in its repeated aggressive actions against civilian and diplomatic facilities in Syria and other Arab countries. jg/jav/mem/fm
