“For me, it is a great honor to represent Cuba”, as the only artist from the island invited to the 2024 edition of this event, which will run until November 24, the oldest and most important of its kind in the world, which this year has as its theme Foreigners Everywhere, Prieto told Prensa Latina.
The expo Cortina, which opens its doors at 5:00 p.m. local time this Thursday in the Venetian theater space Fondamenta Nuove, is an installation work that deals with the migratory issue on which the 60th International Exhibition of this Biennial is focused, as it reflects “not only the emigration between countries, but also the mental one,” the artist said.
In Cortina, whose curator is Nelson Ramirez, director of the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center, the artist questions, with a poetic gesture, the responsibility that implies integration of feeling part of some place or not.
It exposes the kind of luck that each one has in evolution and in the process of natural selection represented in changes, diversity, social, racial, ethnic, political and economic differences.
