On its X profile, the Cuban Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its willingness to continue to work to strengthen the fraternal ties of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
Cuba and Zimbabwe established diplomatic relations in 1980, when the African country achieved its independence, and ties of friendship emerged between the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro (1926-2016), and President Robert Mugabe (1924-2019).
Both countries have developed cooperation projects, especially in the health and education sectors, and work together in international organizations to condemn the unilateral coercive measures of which Havana and Harare are victims.
