Presidents of Brazil and Colombia to discuss bilateral agenda

Bogotá, Apr 17 (Prensa Latina) The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will meet with his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro to address issues on the bilateral agenda.

Lula will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, and also by a high-level delegation from his government, the Colombian Presidency announced.

During the official visit that da Silva will carry out until Thursday, topics related to trade, investments, sustainable development, Amazonian cooperation, social programs, human rights, family farming, pharmaceutical regulation, bioceanic corridors, tourism, homologation of university degrees and electrical interconnection, will be addressed, among other themes.

The representatives of both nations will discuss specific matters such as the implementation of the Belém do Pará Declaration of 2023, which establishes the need to cooperate in addressing challenges related to the climate crisis, the loss of biodiversity, water pollution, soil, and deforestation.

The Presidency also announced that the visit includes the signing of several cooperation instruments to promote strategic alliances in the field of human rights and rural development.

As part of Lula’s visit, 300 businessmen from both countries will meet at the Brazil-Colombia Business Forum.

Bilateral trade exceeded six billion dollars in 2023; total Colombian exports to Brazil were 2-3 billion dollars, while Brazilian imports amounted to 3.8 billion dollars.
