Mexican President thanks Venezuela and Honduras for their decisions

Mexico City, Apr 17 (Prensa Latina) President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador thanked on Wednesday the Governments of Venezuela and Honduras for their diplomatic decisions regarding Ecuador, after the assault on the Mexican Embassy in Quito.

On his usual morning press conference, the president further highlighted the support expressed to his country by the leaders gathered yesterday at the extraordinary summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) on the raid on its embassy in that country.

At the virtual meeting, the Venezuelan head of State Nicolas Maduro announced the immediate withdrawal of its diplomatic staff from Ecuador, and ratified his absolute solidarity with the people and Government of Mexico for the incidents that took place on the night of April 5.

After the encounter, the Honduran authorities called for consultations with its Chargé d’Affaires in Ecuador, and announced that they will take the necessary steps to support Mexico’s actions to the United Nations and the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

On speaking yesterday at the summit, Lopez Obrador expressed his gratitude for the solidarity of the majority of the peoples and Governments of Latin America and the Caribbean and proposed them to subscribe the complaint filed by Mexico against Ecuador to the International Court of Justice.
