As reported on Wednesday by the state-run ACNC news agency, the associates noted that the donation from the also general secretary of the Workers’ Party, valued at 3.7 billion yen (Japanese currency), is an appreciated contribution to the education of their children and grandchildren.
They recalled that the first such gesture was made in 1957 by President Kim Il Sung and that, since then, the donations made by him and his successors Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Un have totaled 170, amounting to over 49.7 billion yen. The donation by the current DPRK leader came on the 112th birthday of the founder of the country (April 15).
During the three-day holiday of the known Sun Festival (equivalent to Christmas in the West), schoolchildren are usually given gifts and many couples get married because those dates are considered auspicious.
The Chongryon board assured that this year Koreans in Japan will continue to strive for the further development of the association and reiterated their commitment to the revolutionary ideas of Marshal Kim Jong Un.
