El Salvador exports to US decrease

San Salvador, Apr 16 (Prensa Latina) El Salvador's exports to the United States decreased by 15.2 percent in 2023 to accentuate the trade imbalance, local media reported.

The document from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and the US Census Bureau indicated that purchases in the local market went down from 3.037 billion to 2.574 billion between 2022 and 2023.

Statistics from the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) of El Salvador show that clothing and accessories are the main exports to El Salvador.

Washington is El Salvador’s major trading partner, at it is the country that exports more than imports.

Local exports to the US are led by clothing and accessories, and accounted for 1.388 million last year, and dropped by 8.7 percent in 2023.

On the other hand, US exports in 2023 to the local market amounted to 4.266 billion dollars, which accounted to 15-percent decrease.

BCR figures assure that the main products imported from the United States are fuels and mineral oils, products for their distillation, bituminous materials and mineral waxes, with 2.101 billion dollars accumulated last year.
