In a statement, the Foreign Ministry stressed that information spread by several media outlets recently “does not correspond to reality and that the Angolan government denies any contact with the British Government in this regard”.
The Times and the BBC were among the media pointed to Angola and Cape Verde as being on a list of nations the British Executive planned to approach to take in undocumented migrants from UK.
According to The Times, negotiations were already underway with Ivory Coast, Botswana, Costa Rica and Armenia, with the intention of reaching an agreement similar to the one adopted with Rwanda to take in hundreds of asylum seekers.
