Cuban president supports Mexico at CELAC Summit

Havana, Apr 16 (Prensa Latina) "Mexico can count on our firm support in the actions they undertake in the face of this unacceptable breach of International Law," Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said on Tuesday.

The Cuban head of State spoke at the Extraordinary Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), convened by the presidency pro tempore of Honduras, to examine the irruption of the Mexican Embassy in Quito by local authorities, the Presidency of the Republic announced on its X profile.

This unfortunate event has been condemned by the majority in the region, as it is a flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the right to asylum, Mexico’s sovereignty and other norms of International Law, Díaz-Canel asserted.

The rotating leader of CELAC and president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, inaugurated the extraordinary summit of heads of State and Government of the bloc, which is meeting virtually to analyze the assault on the Mexican Embassy in Quito on the night of April 5t to arrest former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas, to whom Mexico had granted asylum that same day.
