The Cuban Embassy in Phnom Penh made this remark on its Facebook profile on the 64th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations on April 15.
The geographical and cultural distance has not been an obstacle to developing fraternal relations between our peoples, a legacy of affection, respect, and admiration forged between King-Father Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia, and the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, the publication stressed.
The document also points out that this commemoration comes after a year of significant events, some unprecedented in these six decades, “which have left an indelible mark on the historical ties.”
It recalled that 2023 marked a fluid exchange of visits, the signing of cooperation documents, and actions of interest that allowed progress in agriculture, sports, education, and health.
This occasion is also appropriate to thank the Kingdom of Cambodia for its invaluable support to the struggle of the Cuban people to end the genocidal economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, more than 60 years ago, and remove Cuba from Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list, the text emphasizes.
