Türkiye calls to prevent escalation after Iran’s retaliatory attack

Ankara, Apr 15 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called on Monday to prevent an escalation of the conflict following Iran's retaliation against Israel in response to Tel Aviv's attack on its consulate in Damascus.

In a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amirabdollahian, the head of Turkish diplomacy noted that his country would not wish to see a war escalation in the region, and called to prevent actions that might increase tension, the Hurriyet Daily News reported.

The newspaper stressed that the Iranian foreign minister, in turn, pointed out that his country’s retaliation has already been completed. Therefore, his nation would refrain from carrying out other actions in the future unless it is attacked.

Amirabdollahian explained that in the case of Israel’s aggression, the response would be even stronger.

Fidan also spoke over the phone with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, with whom he agreed to prevent a war escalation in the region amid Israel’s bombings on the Gaza Strip, where more than 33,600 people have been killed.

Iran’s operation included launching dozens of drones and missiles, some of which destroyed Israel’s military targets, even though the Government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed to have eliminated 98 percent of Iran’s equipment.
