The announcement came during a meeting held at the headquarters of the Arab Writers Union in Damascus in the presence of representatives from Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, and the State of Palestine.
In its first statement, the Union explained that its work will focus on strengthening cultural identity and belonging and confronting normalization with Israel, besides the Palestinian issue in culture, literature, and art.
Among other tasks is also the coordination with associations and friendly countries to confront the occupation and expose its practices against the Palestinian people, in addition to consolidating the culture of resistance against the Zionist occupier and terrorism in literature and art.
One of the Union’s priorities is to support the restoration of the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian Arab people and their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on their entire territory and strengthen their presence in social media, education, teaching, media, and cultural programs such as theater, cinema, and art, the statement assured.
