South African president to visit Uganda and South Sudan

Pretoria, Apr 15 (Prensa Latina) South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will pay working visits to Uganda and South Sudan this week.

According to a presidential statement circulating here, Ramaphosa will stay in Uganda on Monday and Tuesday.

The South African and Ugandan (Yoweri Museveni) leaders are expected to discuss regional security and stability, including the situation in eastern DR Congo.

From Kampala, according to South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), Ramaphosa will travel to the Republic of South Sudan, where he will pay working visit from April 16-18the to strengthen the existing relations between the two countries.

In South Sudan, Ramaphosa will be briefed by his counterpart, Kiir Mayardit, and other stakeholders on the status of implementation of the Revitalized Agreement for the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS), which was signed on September 12, 2018.

The R-ARCSS, Dirco reminded, will expire on February 22, 2025, and must be preceded by elections in December 2024.
