Higher education institutions focus on Angola-Cuba cooperation

Luanda, Apr 15 (Prensa Latina) Higher education institutions will focus on cooperation between Angola and Cuba, according to the strategy defended by the Angolan Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Dr. Eugénio Alves da Silva, Secretary of State for Higher Education, told Prensa Latina that the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2023 foresees the possibility of direct actions between centers of both countries without the Ministry’s mediation.

The official stated that each institution, creating partnerships with Cuban entities, can establish agreements for hiring teachers and implementing joint scientific research projects.

Alves da Silva added that a bilateral technical committee has been established between the two nations to promote individual partnership actions of Angolan centers similar to Cuba, based on the resources that each one has for the development of teaching and research.

He also pointed out that the country has had, for many years, Cuban professionals teaching in public universities and other institutions in line with the cooperation agreement in force.

By 2027, Angola aims to have 50 percent of its university teachers with master’s degrees and 14 percent with doctorates. To this end, the Ministry is implementing actions to strengthen and accelerate the training of scientific researchers, teachers, and future professionals.
