Cuban parliamentary commissions to review agreements

Havana, Apr 15 (Prensa Latina) The permanent work commissions of the National People's Power Assembly (NPPA, parliament) of Cuba are reviewing compliance with the agreements adopted in the last two ordinary sessions of that legislative body.

On the Cuban Parliament’s website, Parliamentary Commission Coordinator Marta Hernández said that 24 agreements, approved during the first and second NPPA ordinary sessions in the 10th Legislature, will be reviewed, in addition, 51 others agreed upon at previous meetings of the permanent work commissions.

Hernández said that it is necessary to check mainly those accords in which not much progress has been made and that due to their impact on the population, they need momentum in their different actions.

She also noted that during this session, the members of the permanent commissions of the Legislature have paid five visits to Cuban provinces in more than 25 municipalities, 550 institutions and work centers, and met with some 17,000 people.

The Economic Affairs Commission will check the progress of the process of decentralization of powers to the municipalities, an aspect that has not made enough progressed, highlights the press release from the Cuban Parliament.

Ramón Aguilar, president of the Agri-Food Commission, explained that they will verify the compliance with the agreement on the Government’s Report on the implementation of the Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security acts.

They will also examine the impact of the implementation of Decree 35, on contracting and the operation of the contracting and price agreement committees in the reduction of retail prices to the population,” Aguilar said.

Tamara Valido, in turn, head of the Commission for Attention to Services, specified that she will examine the partial control of the agreement on the Economy Plan for 2024, making emphasis on the goals and objectives of the Ministry of Tourism in the first quarter and the behavior of import substitution in the sector, especially food products, she pointed out.

She pointed out that this parliamentary commission will develop the partial check of the agreement regarding the economic results of the Ministry of Transportation, another of the activities with several criteria, suggestions and high impact on the population.

Finally, Miriam Brito, president of the Commission for Attention to Local Corps of People’s Power, stressed that each of the verified agreements has a high impact on municipal and provincial bodies.

As they have a direct impact on the fulfillment of the powers that correspond to the Municipal Assembly on matters such as the reduction of the budget deficit, the implementation of the Food Sovereignty act, services, transportation, that is, on the improvement of the quality of life of the population, Brito indicated.
