Switzerland loses credibility as mediator, Russia asserts

Moscow, Apr 14 (Prensa Latina) Switzerland is losing its credibility as a good faith international mediator, the spokesperson of Russian Foreign Minister Maria Zajarova told the Sputnik news agency.

Moscow has repeatedly drawn the Swiss side’s attention to the fact that an irresponsible adherence to the openly hostile course of the Western community towards Russia, particularly the adherence to the European Union’s 13 anti-Russian sanctions packages, the spokeswoman added.

Likewise, Zakharova said, the total Swiss solidarity with the Kyiv government is unquestionable, which goes against its declared neutrality.

The diplomat noted that Moscow warned Bern more than a year ago that continuing this destructive line would lead to the loss of our confidence in the Swiss Confederation as a good-faith mediator in international affairs, but the Swiss authorities have not taken any notice.

Moreover, they have begun to actively promote in recent months such destructive initiatives as the convening of the so-called international conference on Ukraine, detached from reality, as well as the development of a mechanism that would allow the seizure of Russian assets, Zakharova said.

Switzerland will hold a peace conference on Ukraine near the city of Lucerne on June 15-16. In January, Swiss President Viola Amherd said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky had asked her to call for a meeting for peace in Ukraine.

On April 9, the spokesman of the Russian embassy in Bern, Vladimir Khokhlov, said that, if Russia is invited to such an event, it will not accept it, as the Summit seeks to promote the Ukrainian peace formula, which is unfeasible because it does not take into account Russian interests.

Zakharova also declared on April 11 that Moscow will not attend this event as it only represents a platform to promote the so-called Zelensky peace formula.

The Swiss foreign minister then remarked that no peace process can take place without Russia.

On April 12, Russian diplomatic chief Sergey Lavrov warned that the possible presentation of a “collective ultimatum” to Russia at the conference in Switzerland on Ukraine negates any chance of a successful outcome of that event.
