Mexico’s complaints on Ecuador’s violations is highlighted

Mexico City, Apr 13 (Prensa Latina) Mexico's complaints before the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, of the violations to its embassy in Quito, committed by Ecuador, are today in the local media.

Information disclosed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the day before, the permanent representative of the North American country to the United Nations (UN), Héctor Vasconcelos, delivered the accusations to Guterres.

The objective was to denounce the serious violations incurred by the Andean nation last April 5, due to the violent entry of security forces to the mission’s premises, and the attacks against the person and dignity of its diplomatic personnel.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the communication was made following the procedure established by resolution 77/108 of the General Assembly of the organization, foreseen to denounce events such as those that occurred last week.

Based on photographic evidence and a technical account of what happened, Mexico presented “the actions that constitute a flagrant violation of international law”.

The provisions contained in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations are clear in establishing that Ecuadorian agents were prevented from entering the embassy and obliged to take the necessary measures to protect it against any intrusion or damage, the text underlines.
