The Barbados Today website states that several people were referred to institutions with warning signs and some were hospitalized with severe variants of the disease, whose predominant serotypes in the country, according to studies, have been 2 and 3.

Health authorities have advised the population to implement measures to avoid contracting the disease, such as the use of repellent, protective clothing and mosquito nets; the elimination of breeding sites of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits the disease, and the maintenance of a clean environment.
