Zhao Leji, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, was invited by the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and the DPRK government, the state-run ACNC news agency reported today.
Zhao was received by his counterpart Choe Ryong Hae, a member of the Political Bureau of the WPK and first vice-chairman of the State Affairs Committee, at Pyongyang Sunan International Airport.
Both functionaries are expected to hold official talks on the same date to address issues related to bilateral cooperation and the situation in Asia.
Zhao is the highest-level Chinese official to visit the DPRK, since the Covid-19 pandemic halted high-level exchanges between the two nations.
His delegation includes Liu Jianchao, head of the CPC International Relations Department; Liu Qi, secretary general of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress; Sun Yeli, Minister of Culture and Tourism; and Vice Ministers Ma Zhaoxu (Foreign Affairs) and Li Fei (Commerce).
