Díaz-Canel recalls siege of Cuban Embassy in Venezuela

Havana, Apr 12 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Friday recalled the siege of the Cuban Embassy in Venezuela, as part of the coup d'état perpetrated against Hugo Chávez in 2002.

On his X profile, the head of State pointed out that it can never be forgotten that 22 years ago, the fascist right wing, which took power for a few hours in Venezuela, promoted a siege and raid of the Cuban diplomatic headquarters, and after failing to succeed, basic services to the embassy, where there were women and children, were cut off.

The action against the Cuban Embassy in Venezuela occurred on April 12, 2002, during the events associated with the coup d’état against then President Hugo Chávez (1954-2013).

Violent groups from the extreme right wing gathered in front of the Cuban representation, destroyed vehicles and cut off essential electricity and water services, in addition to threatening the personnel inside the building.

These actions ended when Chávez returned to office after being kidnaped by disloyal military personnel, an action that had the complicity of the business sector, opposition unions, the Catholic Church and private media.
