During the official talks, Xi stressed that Suriname was one of the first Caribbean nations to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, create a strategic partnership and sign a cooperation agreement on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

“Both countries have maintained a model of South-South cooperation based on mutual respect and equality,” he added.

Xi expressed China’s readiness to further strengthen political trust, enhance economic and trade cooperation, promote cultural exchanges and boost international collaboration with Suriname.

He also reiterated China’s support for Suriname’s sovereignty and independence, as well as its right to choose its own development path.
