Vietnam disappointed with UN human rights reports

Hanoi, Apr 11 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam categorically rejected the reports offered by United Nations agencies on the human rights situation in the country, close to the IV Cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

We are very disappointed that despite having a full presence in Vietnam and long-term comprehensive cooperation with ministries, sectors, and localities, the opinions of UN agencies under the UPR have many false and unverified contents, Foreign Ministry Deputy Spokesman Doan Khac Viet said.

There are several assessments that are not objective, unbiased, nor do they accurately and completely reflect Vietnam’s situation, efforts and achievements in protecting and promoting human rights, the spokesman stressed.

According to Khac Viet, quoted by VNA news agency, the process of developing the Vietnam National Report has been carried out seriously, comprehensively, and with full participation of relevant parties as well as UN agencies in the country.

However, he regretted, that the separate reports of those agencies were not developed transparently, corresponding to Vietnam’s willingness to cooperate in the process of drafting the National Report, which is due to be presented next May at the 46th session of the UPR Working Group.
