According to the official statement, units of the Federal Security Service blocked on Wednesday evening several armed individuals allegedly involved in terrorist activities on the outskirts of that city, which is the capital of the Kabardino-Balkaria Republic.
“Faced with the proposal to lay down weapons and surrender, the criminals fired at the security officers,” the release stated.
To ensure the safety of civilians, an anti-terrorist operation regime was established in the region. Later, the NAC reported that two criminals were killed during a brief exchange of fire.
The “members of a gang, part of an international terrorist organization, were planning to commit various sabotage and terrorist attacks on the territory of the Republic,” the statement pointed out.
