Cuban historian´s ashes deposited in his hometown of Villa Clara

Santa Clara, Cuba, April 11 (Prensa Latina) The ashes of Cuban historian Rolando Rodríguez, national winner of awards in History and Social Sciences, were deposited here today in an area of Leoncio Vidal Park, his hometown in central Cuba.

Rodríguez, born on July 17, 1940, died in Havana on April 6, 2024, and before dying he asked that his ashes be scattered in the garden that surrounds the statue of Marta Abreu, patriot and benefactor of the city in the 19th century.

Elier Ramírez, deputy director of the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, highlighted in his words the strong ties of Rolando Rodríguez with his city, where he received the decoration of Illustrious Son.

The posthumous ceremony was attended by his son Rolando Rodríguez Tozo and his daughter-in-law Marisol Iglesias as well as the Master of Science Arelys María Pérez Ruiz, president of the branch of the Union of Historians in the province of Villa Clara.

Graduated in Law, Rodríguez studied Philosophy and was a founding professor of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Havana.

In 1981, he moved to the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Cuba as head of the social affairs area and, later, he was appointed its coordinator.

At the time of his death, he was working as a researcher at the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, institution of which he was founder in 2021.
