In statements during a visit to Washington, D.C., where he attended the High Level Strategic Dialogue at the White House, Murillo said Colombia’s stance is a principle of its foreign policy and of the defense of multilateralism.
“We have not made any recommendation to the US government, beyond the fact that we hold such sanctions, as a principle, unilateral sanctions imposed by a country should not exist,” Murillo stressed.
“We oppose sanctions of any kind, but it is a principle of our foreign policy, because we strongly believe in multilateralism. And multilateralism implies that this has to be discussed in other scenarios. And that´s why we have said, we disagree with sanctions imposed on Venezuela, Cuba, or anybody,” Murillo stated.
Murillo, who is paying an official visit to the United States, revealed in previous statements that the High Level Strategic Dialogue was a quite productive meeting, focused on many issues of the bilateral agenda, but with emphasis on peace and migration issues.
