Havana Film Festival opens with a tribute to Nicolás G. Landrián

New York, Apr 10 (Prensa Latina) The 24th edition of the Havana Film Festival New York (HFFNY) begins its activities on Wednesday with a tribute to Cuban filmmaker Nicolás Guillén Landrián (1938-2003).

The opening ceremony, which will be held at Hofstra University, will feature the screening of “En un barrio viejo” (In an Old Neighborhood), “Los del baile” (The Dancers), and “Ociel del Toa,” documentary films directed by Landrián, who is one of the members of the Cuban film avant-garde of the 1960s and early 1970s, especially for his documentary work.

The documentary film “Landrián” by Cuban director Ernesto Daranas will also be screened for the first time in New York. It highlights the almost unknown work of Nicolás Guillén Landrián.

The 24th HFFNY will run from this Wednesday to April 18, screening more than 35 films from Latin America, most of which are world and local premieres.

Hosted at the Quad Cinema, the event will screen films from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Panama, Uruguay, and other countries of the region.

Filmmakers and renowned figures from Latin American cinema, including Luciano Castillo, director of the Cinematheque of Cuba, announced their participation in the festival.
