Caribbean cycling monarch prepares for Pan American Championship

Havana, Apr 10 (Prensa Latina) Cyclist Daymelin Perez, individual time trial champion in the First Caribbean Games, heads on Tuesday the Cuban women's pre-selection that is preparing for the Pan American Road Championship, to be held in Brazil.

Perez has just taken part in the continental tournament of track events, held in Los Angeles, United States, an experience described as very important, according to the Jit website, because she was able to pedal in a 250-meter velodrome, which is expected to host the cycling events of the 1928 Olympic Games, to be held in that Californian city.

Born in the eastern Cuban province of Holguin, the young cyclist won a silver medal in the road race in the Caribbean multi-sport event, held in Guadeloupe in 2022, in addition to the title in the time trial.

Those modalities will be precisely those that will be disputed in the next continental tournament, to be held from May 20 to 26 in the Brazilian city of Sao Jose Dos Campos.

Cyclists in the elite, under-23 and youth categories will compete in the encounter, and at once the annual congress of the Pan American Cycling Confederation (COPACI) will be held.

The women’s preselection will be completed by Eyseli Rodriguez, Maria Caridad Solano and Eilien Delgado, Sulema Perdomo from Cuba, Rachel Mesa from Granma, Vanesa Hernandez and Karen Martinez from Matanzas, and Evelin Diaz from Holguin, led by coaches Joel Leal and Yumari Gonzalez, the Cuban cyclist with the most world medals.
