After a meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, his Chinese counterpart said that both sides defend the principle of equality of all countries.
Lavrov assured that Moscow and Beijing will continue cooperation in the fight against terrorism after the attack on the concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow. “As you know, attacks on Russian cities have become more frequent, resulting in casualties, including among civilians, and there has been an increase in the number of hackers trying to hack into the Russian electoral system,” although this did not prevent the successful holding of the elections, Lavrov assured and stressed his gratitude to China for sending observers.
Both sides rejected acts of intimidation and unilateral sanctions while ratifying the deepening of bilateral cooperation.
The issue of Ukraine was also on the table of talks, with Wang Yi expressing his hope that the conflict can be extinguished as soon as possible.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning reiterated on Monday that “China has always adhered to an objective and fair position, actively promoted peace talks and a political settlement” on the Ukraine issue.
Lavrov arrived in Beijing this Monday on a two-day visit, which includes discussions of other topics such as cooperation in the international arena, focusing on the United Nations, the BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the G20, APEC, and other multilateral mechanisms and forums.
