In a statement entitled: “The Ecuadorian Government Violates International Law,” several Spanish organizations firmly condemned “the armed assault” on the Mexican diplomatic mission at Saturday’s dawn.
“Such an execrable act of violence over a sovereign country has been conducted to kidnap former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas,” who received political asylum after suffering a tortuous and long process of “false charges and manipulation of justice.”
The solidarity groups denounced that Glas has been subjected to mistreatment and held in an Ecuadorian maximum security prison, after his kidnapping from the Mexican Embassy, “in an act of flagrant violation of the laws of International, Diplomatic and Human Rights Law.”
The State Coordinator of Solidarity with Cuba in Madrid and the Bolivarian Platform of Solidarity with Venezuela, pointed out that in this regard, the Daniel Noboa administration shows its fear of the movement of the Citizen Revolution of that country.
“The action further brings to light the submission of the Latin American oligarchies to the US imperialism, because without the approval of the latter, Noboa’s Government would not even have considered launching such a barbaric act,” they claimed.
On Sunday, Spain called for the “respect of international law,” after deploring the action justified by Noboa to arrest former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas, to whom Mexico had granted political asylum.
“The forcible entry into the Mexican Embassy in Quito is a violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” the Spanish Foreign Ministry stressed in a statement.
“We urge for respecting the international law and concord between Mexico and Ecuador, sister nations of Spain and members of the Ibero-American Community,” the Ministry pointed out.
