The press release from the Russian Foreign Ministry was issued following a high-level Armenia-United States-European Union meeting in Brussels.
Moscow described the summit “as another effort by the collective West to drag the South Caucasus into a geopolitical confrontation.”
“The irresponsible and destructive interference of extra-regional forces in the affairs of the South Caucasus, the desire to drive a wedge between the countries of the region and their neighbors can have the most negative consequences for the stability, security and economic development of the region , the Russian diplomatic department warned. “It is obvious that the West wants to turn Armenia into an instrument for the implementation of its extremely dangerous plans in the South Caucasus,” the diplomatic note highlights.
We know that Washington and Brussels, under ephemeral promises, seek the withdrawal of Armenia from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), the departure of Russian military bases and Russian border guards deployed in the country, the statement added.
We call on the leaders in Yerevan not to allow the West to deceive them and lead the country down the wrong path, which is plagued by the emergence of a security vacuum, serious economic problems and an exodus of the population,” Moscow continued.
In this regard, the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that the volumes of subsidies for Armenia announced in Brussels “cannot be compared with the multimillion-dollar benefits that Armenia receives from interaction with Moscow and within the EEU and the Commonwealth of Independent States.”
On the other hand, the West does not abandon its attempts to “destroy the fundamental basis of Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization, a set of trilateral statements from the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2020-2022,” the ministry emphasized.
“We ask Yerevan authorities to take into account the concerns of neighboring states when building their foreign policy line,” the Russian Foreign Ministry concluded.
