Over 100,000 cases and 117 deaths due to dengue fever in Peru

Lima, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) Dengue fever surpassed 100,000 cases for the first time in Peru, and triggered 117 deaths in the week of March 24-30, according to a report released on Friday by health authorities.

The report from the National Center for Epidemiology, Prevention and Disease Control of the Ministry of Health states that up to the 13th epidemiological week of 2024, there have been 112,659 patients and 117 deaths from the disease.

The figure is 280% higher than that recorded in the same period of 2023, and during the aforementioned week there were 15,576 new cases and 10 deaths from dengue, caused by the prevailing heat.

According to the briefing, the most affected regions are the northern region of La Libertad, with 23,115 cases, followed by Lima with 22,360 patients, Ica with 15,541 affected and Piura with 15,515 afflicted. Metropolitan Lima accumulated 16,626 infections.
