Argentina’s ATE describes anti-protest protocol as undemocratic

Buenos Aires, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) The General Secretary of the Argentinian State Workers Association (ATE) Rodolfo Aguiar described on Friday as very serious and undemocratic the actions of the Federal Police against the affiliates who marched to the surroundings of the Ministry of Economy.

Within the framework of a national strike against the dismissal of around 15,000 employees, the members of ATE gathered in the vicinity of that Ministry of Economy, in the capital city, in which they saw a strong anti-protest operation being deployed.

The police surrounded the Plaza de Mayo and the vicinities of the Ministry and tried to stop the passage of rioters, which led to clashes.

“We are not afraid of them. No matter how much they try to frighten and repress, we, the State employees, will not stop fighting back. You are the violent ones, the ones who govern against the Constitution, with your backs to Congress and harming all the people,” Aguiar asserted.

Under the slogan, “Without workers there is no State, without State there are no rights,” the members of ATE demanded the immediate reinstatement of the dismissed workers, the cessation of such measures, the regularization of all contractual ties and the reinstatement of all employees on a permanent basis.

In addition, they urgently requested a pay rise to face the high inflation, the end of the adjustment policies and of the privatization of public enterprises, the continuity of the Sustainability Guarantee Fund and fair pensions.

Meanwhile, they asked for the annulment of the anti-protest protocol and of the acts of intimidation, as well as the repeal of the decree of necessity and urgency 70/23 which eliminates or reforms over 300 laws.

Aguiar assured that there are no justifications for the layoffs in the public administration and demanded the Government to publish the list of the people who allegedly have no labor content.

In addition, the union announced that it continues to be in a state of alert, since the total number of dismissals could reach 70,000 employees.
