The strategy aims to preserve and manage 30 percent of the land and marine surface under the category of protected areas and other safeguard mechanisms, in accordance with the Global Framework for Biodiversity, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Miguel Ceara explained.
During the meeting, the Minister invited officials and representatives of civil society organizations to assume this commitment with initiative, and urged cooperation agencies to support the strategy.
He said that the challenge now is to create the conditions for the implementation of the plan, and among the main objectives he mentioned were strengthening the management of protected areas and expanding their surface area, as well as ensuring sustainable practices in fishing and agriculture.
Other challenges were strengthening and diversifying the access to financial instruments, promoting sustainable tourism and generating sound governance and regulatory mechanisms.
