The Israeli occupiers would not have carried out this aggression against a diplomatic mission protected by international law if it were not for Washington’s blind support for decades, said the Syrian delegate at the United Nations, Qusai Al-Dahhak, who was quoted by local media.
He added that Washington’s green light caused Israel to attack civilian property, including airports, ports and residential neighborhoods, and commit atrocities such as genocide against the Palestinian people for six months.
The diplomat asserted that Israel’s bombing of a diplomatic mission threatens regional and international peace and security, and brings the region to unprecedented levels of escalation and instability.
Al-Dahhak urged the United Nations to assume its basic responsibilities to condemn Israel’s repeated attacks and take immediate steps to prevent their recurrence and ensure that the perpetrators of such crimes do not escape unpunished.
The diplomat explained that the Iranian Consulate targeted in the attack is located in a densely populated area and is just a few meters away from the headquarters of foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations, including the World Food Program, in addition to a private hospital, faculties of Damascus University and several banks and private companies.
He pointed out that such a hostile act is a serious violation of international conventions and norms that guarantee the protection and immunity of diplomatic missions and their personnel, and the prohibition of any attack on them.
On the other hand, Al-Dahhak charged that Israel’s air aggression against Syria coincided with offensives launched by terrorist organizations in northwestern Syria, which confirms once again the existence of coordination between the Israeli occupier and the terrorists.
