Operation against Argentine workers’ protest denounced

Buenos Aires, Apr 3 (Prensa Latina) The general secretary of the Argentine State Workers Association (ATE), Rodolfo Aguiar, on Wednesday denounced a police operation to prevent the entry of salaried workers to agencies and ministries, as part of a protest against layoffs.

They are filling the public offices with police. There is no money to buy food or medicine, but there is money to repress, he stated.

They appointed a human resources manager of one of the most powerful economic groups (Julio Cordero) as Secretary of Labor.

Javier Milei’s government decided to outsource the adjustment. Now the chainsaw is in the hands of Techint (a multinational dedicated mainly to steel production), but we are going to put up a fight, he added.

On Wednesday, ATE members arrived at their workplaces to stage mass and simultaneous entries against the layoffs in the public administration, which amounted to 11,000 during the weekend.

Causing mass layoffs in the State is to suppress the people’s fundamental rights and it is a conduct typified in our Penal Code.

Violating the guarantee of stability foreseen in the Constitution tens of thousands of times causes the suppression of other fundamental rights of the entire society, Aguiar added.

He pointed out that the Executive is “dangerous and ruthless,” so he anticipated “the repudiation of any acts of repression that might be ordered from Casa Rosada” (Pink House).

Among the institutions where a strong police operation was deployed are the Headquarters of Cabinet, the Secretariat of Labor, the Secretariat of Human Rights, the National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism and the Scientific Complex.
