New paramilitary attacks kill 21 in Sudan

Khartoum, Apr 3 (Prensa Latina) New attacks by Sudanese paramilitaries on several army positions in the state of Sennar, in the southeast of the country, killed 21 people, representatives of international organizations denounced here on Wednesday.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that the attacks were perpetrated over the weekend and, in addition to 21 deaths, dozens of people were wounded and the actions were accompanied by acts of vandalism and violence.

The IOM also reported that many people have fled Sennar in the last few days due to the clashes.

The Sudanese army repulsed a paramilitary bombing against their positions in Al-Awaj area, in the town of Al-Dawim, state of White Nile.

Clashes were also reported in Fasher and in several towns in the north of Darfur.

Since mid-April, this African nation has been plunged into an internal war, after conflicts over power issues between the Army Chief Abdel Fatah al-Burhan, and the leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

In Sudan, where a military coup d’état was staged in 2021 and another one took place in 2019, the war has killed thousands of civilians, including some 15,000 in the West Darfur region alone, and about seven million people have been displaced, according to data from the United Nations.
