Speaking at the official opening of the 12th Congress of the organization, Alvarez recalled that the last forum, held in 2020, approved the pillars that guarantee participation, through the insertion of young people in productive tasks of social impact.
Based on this, 5,116 brigades were created, bringing together more than 120,605 members, she added.
She emphasized that young people have taken actions related to sugarcane production, a sector where much more effort is needed to reverse the negative indicators and results currently reported in the development of the sugarcane harvest, she noted.
As part of the measures that Cuba has approved to guarantee food security and sovereignty, 1,440 young people have received plots of land.
The UJC first secretary indicated that it is a priority for the organization to pay attention to young people who work in the new forms of non-state management and those who are no longer involved in study and work.
Alvarez referred to the international work of the organization over the last five years, which was characterized by strengthening relations with youth organizations throughout the world, contributing to the rejuvenation of the Cuba solidarity movement and maintaining permanent denunciation of the effects of the US blockade, which has lasted for more than six decades.
In addition, the UJC has proposed to increase its activism in the multilateral organizations to which it belongs, with emphasis on the World Federation of Democratic Youth, Alvarez pointed out.
She stressed the need to strengthen the defense of the Cuban Revolution in the digital environment, as well as to add a large number of young people to the ‘combat in the trenches of social networks’ and organize them as a permanent youth beehive.
Under the slogan ‘Create your Happiness’, the 12th UJC Congress will be in session until Thursday with the participation of approximately 400 delegates and around 100 guests.
