UNICEF Representative in Sudan, Mandib O’Brien, warned that the suffering of children could lead to a generational disaster as the country faces the largest child displacement crisis in the world.
The Pan Arab Channel, Al Mayadeen, in turn, echoed the UN’s remarks, stating that more than 3.5 million children have been forced to flee their homes since the beginning of the war, moreover 7.4 million minors do not have access to safe drinking water, and more than three million children under the age of five suffer from acute malnutrition.
O’Brien also called for joint efforts to find aid, funding, and a political solution to the war in the African country.
Since mid-April, Sudan has been plunged into civil war following a power struggle between General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of the Army, and General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). jrr/iff/mem/fvt
