Mexican film will open next edition of Moscow cinema festival

Moscow, Apr 2 (Prensa Latina) The feature movie "Upon Open Sky" (A Cielo Abierto), by the Mariana and Santiago Arriaga siblings, will open the 46th edition of the Moscow International Film Festival, the president of the selection committee, Ivan Kudryavtsev, said on Tuesday.

The motion picture that will open the exhibition was directed by Mexican filmmakers who have been widely honored and whose track record includes their participation in major international festivals and an Oscar nomination, Kudryavtsev added at a press conference in the Russian capital.

“Upon Open Sky,” from 2023, is a co-production between Mexico and Spain. The film tells the story of teenage siblings and their newfound stepsister who embark on a road trip to the United States-Mexico border to find the person responsible for the accident in which their father died.

The movie is based on a story written and adapted for the screen by Mexican author Guillermo Arriaga, father of Mariana and Santiago, and the screenwriter of films like “Amores Perros,” “21 Grams” and “Babel.”

The 46th Moscow International Film Festival will take place from April 19-26, 2024.
