Since 1967, the International Youth’s Book Organization has promoted the celebration of this event every year on April 2.
The date coincides with the birthday of the famous Danish children’s storyteller Hans Christian Andersen.
The main objective is to raise interest and love for books and reading among children and young people and make them a habit in life.
It is an important celebration of culture along with World Book Day, which is celebrated every year on April 23.
Each year, a representative writer and illustrator are selected to write the message to all children globally and design the poster to promote the celebration in libraries and schools worldwide.
Japan is the official sponsor this year under the theme “Cross the Seas on the Wings of Your Imagination.” Writer Eiko Kadono and illustrator Nani Furiya developed the message.
